Classroom News

May 17-21

Dear Parents,
This week we will be reading “Simple Machines." This selection is on pp. 112-131.  Please listen to your child read the story each day or have them to read to someone else.  Please complete the log in the back of your child's reading text each day with the date and pages for the assigned story. Also, there is room for a brief comment on your child's reading.  It is so important for your child to read every day so he or she will become a better reader!  There will be two decodable readers sent home this week.  The first one your child will read today, "Matt Helps Out!" and the second one will be sent home tomorrow, "What Do You Want to Be?"  Please have your child to read these aloud then sign the front of each and return.

Our Sight Words this week are:  against, goes, heavy, kinds, and today.

Our Spelling Words this week are:  (Vowel Sounds in book and boy)

oil, soil, voice, point, boy, boil, coin, oink, toy, join, against, and heavy.

Please only have your child to do one side of the spelling homework each day.  The other side will be assigned for the next day.

In English this week we will be learning about pronouns.

In Science this week we will learn about simple machines.

In Math this week we will continue writing our numbers to 1,000 and practice our addition facts.

Our Student of the Week is David Santiago!

If your child is interested in ordering from Scholastic and has your permission to order their order and money is due on Friday, May 21st.

Please encourage your child to attend school every day unless he or she is sick.  Your child will receive a Brave Buck each day they come to school.  They can spend these at our classroom store we have each month.  Students also earn Brave Bucks for completing homework assignments, reading their decodables and textbook story each day and getting them signed, and for good behavior!

Thank you for sending the tissues, disinfectant wipes, and Germex.  These are always needed and greatly appreciated!
